Where else can you kayak to see wild horses, bald eagles and dolphins potentially all at the same time? Ponies, shorebirds, and eagles are encountered often on our kayak trips, but dolphins are found more often on the nature cruise. Our kayaks are top-quality expedition kayaks that are fast, comfortable and stable. Our guides show you how to brace yourself using your paddle and other kayaking tips that make it easy. Kayaks are more efficient than canoes. See this stunning area while using quality kayaks & paddles that help you go further into this unspoiled destination.
The captain of our mothership tour boat often relays information to our kayak tour guides on the whereabouts of wild ponies, wildlife and outdoor conditions. That’s a great help in determining where our guides go on the kayak trip. This is your opportunity to see the famous wild ponies in the special habitat they have called home since they first arrived on the island (some say by Spanish shipwreck over 300 years ago). Kayaking here is great because we go between the two islands of Assateague and Chincoteague, which means sheltered waters amongst the tall pines and wetlands. Kayaking in this part of Virginia is a popular form of eco-tourism and a rewarding recreational activity. Visitors from Washington D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and all over the country enjoy our guided kayaking tours on their vacation here to Chincoteague and Assateague Island.
Kayaking along Assateague and Chincoteague allows you to enjoy some refreshing exercise and often brings you eye-to-eye with a variety of wildlife that share this habitat. This Virginia kayaking destination is great to explore on our tours, so bring your friends. Families, school groups, boy & girl scouts enjoy our kayaking trips that allow you to reach out and touch the ecology here. Horse clubs, pony clubs, and birding groups find our tours appealing. Meet other paddlers and connect with nature. Immerse yourself in this wonderful ecosystem where wild ponies, crabs, stingrays, fish, shorebirds, bald eagles and other creatures share the estuary. Birding is awesome on our kayak tours. Our guides know the likely locations to find wild ponies and other wildlife. Don’t be shy, you can ask questions along the way. Assateague Explorer’s kayak guides love to provide you with information on kayaking, wild ponies, island history and hidden wonders of this magnificent area in Virginia. Our guides are excited to pass on information, show you the area and work hard to provide the best kayaking experience for you during your vacation. Chincoteague & Assateague definitely have some of Virginia’s best kayaking.
